It is no secret that blogging as become one of the most effective ways to attract targeted traffic to your website. Not only does it allow you publish content, but it also gives your website a sense of community.
One of the most common blogging platforms being used by both blogging newbies and experts is WordPress. Before you begin using WordPress for your blog, you should know the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.
WordPress.com is the more hassle-free option, particularly for those who are just new to blogging and do not want to spend on hosting or domain. Although cost-free, WordPress.com has several limitations, which is a disadvantage for people who would like to customize their blogs and to earn money online. Changing the themes is not permitted for WordPress.com. Running advertisements is also not possible.
On the other hand, WordPress.org is an open source blogging software that allows a lot of customization and various ways to monetize one’s blog. The only drawback is that you need to install WordPress.org to your own hosting account. This doesn’t mean that installing and using WordPress.org is difficult.
However, you are probably asking yourself “how to install WordPress on my website?” If this is the case, here is a quick introduction on how WordPress works and how it can be installed on your website. The first thing you have to realize is that WordPress comes in two different versions. One of them is the free service where you can publish a blog on the WordPress website.
1. Purchase your own hosting account
Having your own hosting account is necessary in order to use WordPress.org. There are various good hosting sites out there. Just ask your friends for their recommendation or read some reviews about the hosting list on internet such as from hosting review website or hosting forum. I have written the tips how to find good hosting service here. If you want to use your own domain name, you will also need to purchase these from the domain registrars.
2. Login to your cPanel
The first step in the setup is to visit your cPanel. When you first signed up with your webhost they would have sent you all the relevant access details to your webhosting package. Part of this would be access to the cPanel which is actually the most poplar control panel in the world.
3. Installing WordPress From Fantastico
When accessing the panel, scroll down until the various serious of boxes and icons until you come to software-services. You are trying to locate the Fantastico De Luxe smiley icon which should be blue in color. Now click on it.
In this fantastico panel, you will be presented with all the many services and software which you can add to your websites. To the left of the panel there will be various categories listed of which WordPress should be one. Again click this link.
You will then be brought to the WordPress installation page. After reading the information, click on the “Install Now” button. Select the current version of WordPress. Enter your site preferences including the domain name, path, site name, user name and password. Agree to the Terms and Conditions and then click on the “Complete” button.
4. Sign in to your WordPress blog
Enter your login url into the address bar. Use the user name and password that you entered during the WordPress installation. You may start customizing your blog by changing the themes, widgets and layout.
For starters, installing WordPress.org may seem complicated but once they realize the advantages, they will appreciate making this necessary effort and investment.
